Code of Conduct

Peltier lab group – v1: April 16th 2024

  1. We believe a functioning and resilient biosphere is essential. While the individual research projects we pursue may not appear to directly address the existential issues we face⎯our curiosity, interest, passion, and creativity towards ecological questions stems from our care for the world around us. You never know where your curiosity will take you.
  2. We believe functioning and resilient people are just as important. We take care of ourselves and each other, as our lives are bigger than our work. We are all here to learn and grow.

Values.

Emerging from these beliefs are the following core values:

Community. Collaboration. Creativity. Respect. Inclusion.

Based on these values we lay out the following code of conduct. The code applies to all lab members (students and faculty), in all locations where lab activities take place, including but not limited to offices, labs, field sites, professional meetings, online and in person, and to written and verbal communication. As members of the lab, we accept responsibility for holding ourselves and each other to the code.

  • Assume good intentions and investigate your assumptions.
  • If you are lost, ask for help. Support and create an environment in which asking questions and seeking help are normal and encouraged.
  • Listening is a skill that requires practice. We strive to improve our communication through listening first, pausing second, and responding third.
  • Respect all persons regardless of ability, age, ethnicity, gender expression and identity, language, marital or caretaker status, nationality, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status. This list is not exhaustive.
  • Acknowledge and appreciate individual differences, and encourage the free expression of ideas.  Recognize different perspectives and lived experiences.
  • Collaborate, participate, engage, and take responsibility for the lab group. Each member shall work to make the lab a better place than when they started.
  • Provide opportunities for everyone to grow as individuals and to participate in our community.
  • Take time off when you need it.
  • Celebrate accomplishments!
